6 months ago, I had bcc removed from my head 2 weeks later my husband collapsed. He was admitted having a stage 4 mass taken from his colon, resulting in having a double barrel stoma. My husband also has metal health problems. I have supported my husband for many years. I work full time and care for my husband. This has and is very challenging.
Hi Mullinsplace and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m sorry to read how much both you and your husband have been through and I can understand why it must be very challenging.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend a few for you to join. The first two are the skin cancer group, which will give you a chance to connect with others who've had that type of skin cancer and also the bowel cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences about your husband's cancer.
Two other groups you might like to consider joining are the ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support group and the carers only group. The former is a great place to discuss things like upper and lower bowel contents, bag recommendations, managing a stoma and foods to avoid, while the latter allows you to share your day-to-day worries and find emotional support.
To join any, or all of these groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about both your husband's and your diagnoses and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
