Blood clots in lung

I had my mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radioteraphy now on medication, hormone tablets and Abemaciclib. I have been tired and easily out of breath over a year. I thought treatments I received and medication was responsible for my breathlessness and tiredness until I spent 12 hours at A&E. I had a CT scan and found out that my right lung covered with blood clots some in left lung too. Has anyone else experienced this?

My GP said blood clot in lungs at increase amongst cancer patients. My oncologist agreed and said Abemaciclib is causing it, but he wants me to continue to take Abemaciclib at a reduced dose. It is worrying times. I haven't seen a specialist yet regarding my new condition. I will attend an anticoagulant appointment on the 2nd of April. I was told to read information on the NHS website and they sent me home.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022 but haven't suffered with blood clots in my lungs.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

When you feel ready you can start a new post in the breast cancer group in same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
