Hi I have breast cancer and we live in a 2 bedroom rented house but I now have a problem getting up and down the stairs due to shortness of breath we have asked the council for a 2 bedroom bungalow because my partner is my full time carer but due to restless leg syndrome and my breathing problems and not sleeping to well he now sleeps in the other bedroom he is nearly 72 so its hard caring for me so he needs some rest the council insist that we have a letter from our consultant or GP stating that we require a 2 bedroom bungalow we have received the letter from the consultant but it only states could the council help with our housing needs which the council will not accept we have paid my GP to write a letter for us we have not received it yet but yet again it depends on what it says has anyone had this problem

I have no first hand experience in dealing with what you are dealing with but you may want to call the Macmillan Support Line that is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial/work guidance or just a listening ear.
I do hope you can get answers soon.
Hi we have tried Macmillan but no joy they emailed the consultant but still no joy they will not commit in writing that we need a 2 bedroom bungalow
