Hi, I am new to this group and after being diagnosed with suspected ovarian cancer I have very recently had an ovarian tumour removed with Total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and remaval of the omentum and lymph nodes - this was unable to be done keyhole and was therefore open surgery.

I was wondering if anyone has had the same operation by open surgery that could give a little bit of advice / talk through their experience of the pain management and time scales? I am only 46 so have also gone into surgical menopause, emotionally I’m finding things very overwhelming and right now done know if that’s the suregery, comjng to terms with the hysterectomy, or the menopause. But I am struggling to manage the surgical pain at the moment and would be really grateful to hear of anyone else’s experience

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's natural to feel overwhelmed after a cancer diagnosis and then surgery, especially if you're struggling with pain. Have you spoken to your hospital team about the pain you're in as they should be able to tweak your pain meds. As it's the weekend, and they might not be available, you could always contact 111 for advice.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer group, which is a great place to ask your questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
