Hi all, I am really concerned about my 60 year old husband who has had a really bad cough and breathlessness for 5 weeks. He has seen 3 doctors and just finished his second course of antibiotics. He is still having severe coughing which hasn't changed but is definitely feeling more breathlessness. He had two weeks off work (first time in 9years) as he couldnt get out of bed with the cough and flu like symptoms and is now back at work but really struggling and completely exhausted. Spoke to gp today and advised to give time for antibiotics to work and make an appointment if no better. I really think he needs further investigation but cant seem to get even an xray. Hubby thinks its just a cold thats not going away bit i woŕry it could be something more serious as he lost his sister 2 years ago to lung cancer aged 61, there is also a wider family history. Advice appreciated x
Hi Blondie13
I am not familiar with lung cancer but I do know about my cancer which is commonly completely misdiagnosed for so long that it presents to hospital at an advanced stage . My advice to you is to insist, make a nuisance of yourself and get that X-ray. If your GP is completely intransigent get a private one done. It's a sorry state of affairs that we have to do this but it may save his life or better still just put your minds at rest. Good luck
