Hi I am a new carer, and  I know how supportive McMillan can be.  I am currently living in Spain with my 69 year old husband who has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer which has metastasised widely into his bones. He is in terrible pain and declining rapidly physically and mentally.  Chemo and Immunotherapy is due to start imminently.

And I am scared how I am going to cope, especially as I have my own health issues.
our family are far and wide UK, S Africa and Australia so I am feeling isolated especially as I do not have children.

I have also been in this situation before, all be it 35 years ago which isn’t helping.

friends are supportive but I don’t like to impose.

any advice please.

  • hi my husband has the same cancer only found out four weeks ago he’s 50 and we have young children. We still haven’t had a treatment plan waiting for an MRI scan in a few days and then hopefully the treatment plan will be sooner after once the results are in it’s taken so long, he’s getting more more tired and he’s struggling to keep his eyes open. He’s on six steroid tablets a day. And we have The just in case box at home

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I know how a cancer diagnosis can impact the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the carers only group, which is a great place to share your emotions and worries with others who have a loved one dealing with cancer.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to you too.

You might also like to join the carers only group, which I've signposted Boza to.

Another group I'd recommend you think about joining is the lung cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

If you have any problems finding your way around here just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
