Magnesium IV

My dad has stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to his liver. He’s no longer having treatment and has been given 3-6 months which has been devastating for us all.

his magnesium levels have been low and the first time it happened during his chemo he was put on a magnesium IV and it gave him a massive boost.

His latest blood tests show his levels are very very low again but he is only taking sachets rather than being given it through an IV again. His energy levels are very low and he’s not eating much, I was wondering if it’s possible to have an IV at home?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and although I didn't have the same type of cancer as your dad, I know just how much a cancer diagnosis can impact everyone.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group, where you can ask your question about magnesium, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • I’ve been focusing on natural ways to support my recovery and came across some helpful info on herb-era.com. They've got a section that explains how different forms of magnesium work in the body, including how it might affect energy, sleep, and muscle cramps. It helped me figure out what kind might be useful alongside my treatment, especially since I was confused about all the different types out there.
