Hello all,

I find myself here today as I am struggling to function at the possibility of a thyroid cancer diagnoses with an 11 month old baby.I had an unexpected miracle surprise pregnancy at the age of 45 after years of infertility and failed IVF rounds. I now have a beautiful baby boy who is my world as well as a loving partner who is my soulmate.

Fast forward to now age 47 and I have had an enlarged lymph node in the left side of my neck for a while and thought it was down to impacted wisdom teeth.I went for an ultrasound and they found a 1.5cm nodule on the left side of my thyroid classified as a U5 and another smaller abnormal lymph node on the left side of my neck.I had FNA biopsies 2 and a half weeks ago and I have just been a mess, signed off work with anxiety and terrified about leaving my precious baby boy.I have a lovely suportive family but I just feel so alone.Does anyone have any advice on how I carry on functioning normally whilst living in this nightmare.I am very distressed.

Thank you in advance.Heart

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, having had 2 cancer diagnoses myself, I have a good idea how scared you're probably feeling right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your symptoms and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
