Occult triple negative breast cancer

Hi ,
I’m Carolyne and I live in Norfolk.

I found a lump in my right armpit in November and initially dismissed it as swollen glands as I was just getting over flu.
Long story short was given a definitive diagnosis of Occult (Shrug♀️) triple negative breast cancer last week. I understand that this means there is no evident primary source which my consultant said is very unusual.
The plan is chemo starting in a couple of weeks and then lymph removal with an option of single mastectomy. At the moment I feel like I will go for the mastectomy as a precautionary measure.
Has any one of you lovely ladies had this diagnosis as I can’t find any information anywhere?

Thanks for welcoming me in to your safe space.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with TNBC in April 2022 so have a good idea how you're probably feeling right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the triple negative breast cancer group and also the main breast cancer group. Both are great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
