Hi Ive just been diagnosed with HCC. I’ve tried talking to my doctor about the results of my tests and the were very unhelpful, upset me so much I cried when I left the surgery, but that’s all she would say was that she was just a GP and I needed to talk to a specialist.
I’ve just turned 70 and would just like to know what all the results mean and what to expect next.
thsnk you for taking the time to read my post I live on my own and my 28 year old son lives a couple VP of miles away but I can’t talk to him as he doesn’t want to discuss it till we know more
Hello there, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this issue. I can understand why you were upset with the GP, but really she knows little more than you do at this point. The hospital will be thplace to get more details and when they're ready to give you the best answers they'll call you back to discuss the way ahead. Always , always take someone with you to appointments...it's a real he
. If you don't hear soon , try to contact the consultant's secretary or your cancer nurse . Wishing you well and keeping you in my prayers
.
Thank you for your kind words. I think I was more upset that the surgery had asked me to attend for my results and then wouldn’t tell me anything. I’ve been ill for so long and they even took out my gall bladder in May even though they didn’t find any gallstones which I now feel was an unnecessary operation. I think the hardest part is all the waiting
once again thank you
Hi Alachal and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was sorry to read that you were so upset when you visited your GP. As Zillah has said, GPs usually don't know much about the specifics of different cancers and probably don't have access to all the information that your hospital consultant does. However, it does seem strange that they called you in for your results when they wouldn't be able to answer your questions.
The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already joined the liver cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
When you feel ready you can start a new post there in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
