Hi there
we are waiting on biopsy results for lung cancer and my dad is constantly coughing. Steroids aren’t working. Does anyone have any advice or tips on some respite from the coughing. Also is it common to have a hacking cough? We don’t know much so far. Unfortunately we aren’t having much luck right now with doctors and the steroids can’t be/won’t prescribed again. We will go to the doctors today but any help is appreciated
Hi CharlotteAP1 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I'm sorry to read about your dad's constant cough. It must be very distressing for him.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
Has your dad been allocated a CNS (cancer nurse specialist), sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan nurse, yet? If so she should be able to offer advice on how to alleviate his coughing. If he hasn't been allocated a nurse yet then he could ring his consultant's secretary and she should either be able to put him in touch with the CNS or arrange for him to have a chat with the consultant over the phone.
It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
