Extreme fatigue from Carboplatin/Paclitaxel

Hi, this is my very first post in the MacMillan Online Community. I've just had my fifth (of six) chemo treatments and it hit me like a brick. There is the usual pain in the legs and feet, weird taste in my mouth, and slight nausea. But the fatigue -- lack of energy -- is the worst. I'm 57 and live on my own. Every time I get up from my chair or bed, I'm light-headed and can barely muster up enough energy to get to the kitchen or living room without needing to sit back down again and catch my breath. Taking a shower is risky, as I've had to hold on to the wall to stop from passing out. My house is filthy, as I don't have the energy to clean. It feels as though I'm never going to be my "old self" again, back in the days when I was independent and had plenty of energy. Now I have to hold on to someone's arm to walk down a hospital corridor. Anyone else having this side effect with Carboplatin/Paclitaxel?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about the challenges you are having…… fatigue is accumulative but it should slowly subside once your treatment is complete.

I have had significant chemo over my years and I appreciate what you are dealing with.

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… but you don’t say what type of cancer you have If you care to have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

Have a look through the LIST above and once you find the support group for your cancer type....... click on the link and when the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hi Mike, sorry that you have had to have so much chemo. I just hope it's working and you're on the road to recovery. Thank you for the introduction and advice on getting around on the site. Much appreciated!

  • I am doing great….. I have been on my journey with 2 very rare types of Non Hodgkins Lymphomas for over 25 years but my last treatment was 9+ years ago, I turn 70 at the end of the year and I am continuing to live a great life…… all the very best.
