I have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at age of 38 which has been a huge shock to myself and my family. Been told require chemo quickly prior to surgery and require to start asap. Awaiting results of mri, ct and hormone receptors to see full extent and struggling with the waiting. I havent had any contact from the hospital regarding any further appointments either with oncologist or getting my results. Feel like i have been forgotten about and dont know when things are going to start, as feel its taking too long. Should i be worried i havent heard anything from anyone and its been weeks?
Hi Mongtard and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022 so know how scared you're probably feeling right now.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer and breast cancer for the under-50s groups, which are great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
Once all your results are in there will be a MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting to decide on the best treatment for you. Clicking on the link will give you information on who will be at this meeting. After that you should have an appointment to discuss what will be having and to sign consent forms. You could always give your BCNS (breast cancer nurse specialist), sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan nurse, a call to find out how soon you're likely to see someone.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I'm really sorry you're having to go through this, it’s such a tough situation. I was in a similar boat a while back, and the waiting game can really mess with your mind. I know it’s easy to feel like you’ve been forgotten, but in my experience, delays like that are fairly common. I’d definitely suggest giving the hospital or your GP a call just to check in on your results and when you’ll be seeing the oncologist. It’s a stressful time, but staying on top of communication can help ease the uncertainty a bit. Wishing you all the best and hoping things get moving soon.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
