Hi
New to the group.
My hubby finished his radiotherapy for prostate cancer just after xmas. So although he is “still burning” he is done with that. He is so very easily tired and because he has the added problem of bleeding piles his iron was in his boots. Thankfully he is on iron tablets now so his energy levels are rising, albeit slowly. He will continue with his 3-monthly injections and his tablets for 3 years then we will know if he is cured. It’s such a long time to wait isn’t it?
Anyway, the reason for me coming here today is that i had rectal biopsies taken yesterday, and although we don’t have the lab results yet my surgeon told us yesterday that the lesion looks sinister.
It was like a punch to the gut. She says that treatment wil most likely be chemo radiotherapy. Another punch! If that isn’t successful it would be surgery but as my lesion is so near the sphincter muscle i may need a stoma bag. 3rd punch delivered successfully.
Im 62 and hubby is 68 so we’re not too old. Hubby is an owner/driver taxi driver and has decided that he’s going to retire now and get well again without the stress of the job.
We are getting attendance allowance for John but can i also claim for me when i get my definitive diagnosis? Now that John has retired (I’m already retired due to ill health) is there anything else that can help financially? I’m clueless so any help would be amazing.
Apologies for the long post - my head is absolute mush today.
Thanks in advance

Hello Kazaboo
A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, although I am sorry to find you here. I am Brian one of the Community Champions here on the Community. The Community is divided into various cancer specific chat rooms or forums where you can "meet" with people on the same or similar diagnosis to you. I would advise for both of you to join the following groups;
Prostate cancer forum (for John) and
Anal cancer forum (for yourself)
To join both groups, just click on the links I have provided and once the page opens up, click on "Join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. You can then introduce yourself by either copying and pasting or reposting your original post in the "New here - Say Hello" section of the group.
I hope this helps - I look forward to "meeting" you again on the Prostate Group as that is my cancer and I hang out there.
If I can do anything else for you please do let me know.
Best wishes - Brian.
