Appreciate they vary a great deal, depending on which type but I am curious how long people have typically had to wait for biopsy results?  In my specific case I have had a bone marrow biopsy and an ultrasound guided neck lymph node and was told to expect 2-3 weeks is typical.  Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

When I was diagnosed with melanoma it took 6 weeks from biopsy to being told. More recently, it was only a week from having a biopsy for possible breast cancer to being told I did have breast cancer.

  • Hi again  in the last post we talked on you said that you were now under Heamatology…… the world of blood cancers is very complicated and can take time to get clear results…… and unfortunately this can be longer than in other cancer types.

There are over a 100 different types of blood cancers…… with Lymphoma, Leukaemia, Myeloma being the main ones but there are others like the rare Myelodysplasia (MDS), Murloproliferative-Neoplasms (MPN) and a few others……. its complicated.

I have been on my journey with 2 rare types of T-Cell Lymphomas with one being incurable for over 25 years. So from my long experience and also talking with many people on this community but also on a Lymphoma specific community the time it takes to get biopsy results can range from a few weeks to 8-10+ weeks if their samples have to be sent to specialist labs.

Back in 1999/2000 when I was first diagnosed my consultant was 99% sure as to the type of Lymphoma I had but it took a full year and 6 biopsies to get the pathology to prove this….. I had some samples sent to the US to get tested.

I do hope you get answers soon.
