Hi there, looking forward to joining the discussions on this group - I am at the beginning of my treatment, post hysterectomy for endometrial cancer on 9 January . Feeling exhausted but keep trying to do some outings ( 2 hours max) but always have to have a lie down afterwards! ; local cafes and garden centres. Think I might focus just on stepS from my back door this coming week and see if that is a bit easier. Struggling with so much sitting.

I hear your frustration. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and peritoneal washes at the start of April. Being a pretty active person (albeit with a dodgy hip!) I struggle with sitting at the best of times. Having to sit around so much and not being able to do the things I would normally do to keep mobile (yoga and Pilates) was hard
I made sure I got up and moved around the house every hour or so and when the weather played ball went for an outdoor walk every day, aiming to get a bit further each time. Some days I went too far and had to rein it back in again . I was told by the hospital to “listen to my body” and thought ‘what a cop out’ but it’s just so true. My body soon told me if it wasn’t happy. I was keen to challenge myself (without doing anything daft that could set me back) but didn’t always get it right
Sounds like you’re about 3 weeks post-op? I think that’s probably about the most frustrating time of all. Your head wants to go but your body says no! I remember saying to my husband around week 6 that I felt I’d turned a corner but it took me about 3-4 months to fully recover. Just needed to be patient (something I’m not always very good at!). Dig in, it does get easier. Hope this has been helpful.

Have you been given physio to do? Just gentle core engagement really. I had abdominal hysterectomy so hung off until around week 4 before starting the gentler ones but they really helped mobilise scar tissue. And don’t forget your pelvic floor! Still doing my squeezes 2-3 times a day and was delighted to get right round the golf course the other week without having to dive into the nearest bush!

I was given a leaflet by the ward staff called Fit Following Surgery. Advice and Exercise Following Major Gynaecological Surgery. Google POGP (Pelvic Obstetrics & Gynaecological Physiotherapy) and you should be able to find it but, yes, would advise discussing with your gynaecological team before commencing.
