Hello. This is all very new so please forgive the lack of information.
My partner has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer (looking like advanced). No numbers or levels yet, but CT showed it in lymph nodes and PSA 60
lots more tests including biopsy and bone scan yet to happen
We've just discovered we have full private healthcare, but we also understand this is where the NHS can also be at its best, when needing urgent care.
Do we have to have one or the other? From your experience, what would you do? private or NHS?
Hello Edz
I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here. I have been a member of the Prostate Community for 3 years. Many members have used private healthcare or private consultations for diagnostic or second opinions but most have stuck with the NHS.for treatment.
Are you aware on the NHS you can pick and choose your treatment venue?
I do hope that his helps. Perhaps a new thread on the Prostate forum asking members about the treatment you want may answer your questions.
Feel free to message me if it helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Edz. As far as I know you can combine both. I think your urologist is wrong. It’s up to each individual trust. However. If you are in England you have the right to be seen at any hospital of your choosing if they have capacity. So I might suggest you ring round and see if any you mention do have and you can get the treatment in the nhs too.
Good luck. Let me know how you get on

Sorry to hear about your partner’s diagnosis. We went through something similar with a family member and found using both NHS and private care worked well. The NHS is great for urgent care and more serious treatment, while private healthcare helped us get faster access to specialists and second opinions. I’d say, don’t feel like you have to choose one or the other – use both to your advantage. The NHS can be great for the big stuff, and private care can be handy for the speed and flexibility, especially in situations like this.
Good Evening MrsG14
Once you know what treatment you need and you think you can get this either earlier or from somewhere with better facilities, results or services you can ask your GP for a referral to that hospital.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.
