Hi
Just joined so thought I’d introduce myself and say why I’m here. I came upon the community pretty much by accident really. Having recently been diagnosed with actinic keratosis, I was looking for info about folks’ experience of using Efudix and Google brought me here. However, scrolling down the home page I came across a post by a woman, desperately worried about whether or not she had uterine cancer. I’ve been there. Not that long ago, as it happens. Between August 2023 and April 2024 I lived with a string of urgent referrals due to a suspicion of cancer. Ten months of scans, failed smear tests, failed attempts to access my uterine cavity and take biopsies and multidisciplinary meetings eventually resulted in a total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and peritoneal washes in April 2024. It was a huge relief to get the all clear from my consultant 4 weeks later but that did nothing to alleviate the stress and worry at the time.
Ten months of living in fear of uterine and/or ovarian cancer caused me to dismiss the ‘thing’ on my face that’s been there for about two years now and has gradually got bigger. Ironic really that the gynae issue ended up being benign when all that time abnormal cells were staring right back at me every time I looked in a mirror!
So, I’m here for two reasons, really.
For me: I hope that I can link in with others suffering from skin cancer/pre-cancer, especially those with experience of using Efudix.
For others: I hope that by sharing my experience of ‘the long wait’ I can be of some support to folks who are currently at the investigative/diagnostic stage or waiting for results.
Look forward to chatting.
Hi FaithA and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Thanks very much for offering to share your experiences of going through tests for uterine and ovarian cancer.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the womb cancer and ovarian cancer groups, as that way you'll connect directly with others who are having investigations for those types of cancer and you can offer your support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I can see that you've already found and posted in the skin cancer group and hopefully others who have used Efudix for actinic keratosis will be along soon.
It would be great if you could put something about your tests, diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
