Hi Everyone, I'm Mike, on Tuesday 21st January I was diagnosed with cancer, I have 2 metastatic tumours in mi neck. I've had some scans done just waiting for the PET scan to be done to find the primary tumour.

I'm scared I won't lie .  I made the big mistake of looking on "doctor Google' and what a mistake that was. But I made contact with Macmillan yesterday spoke with a guy named Martin, nice fella. He forwarded me to speak to one of the nursing team and George settled my head.

I'm not sure what I want or expect from this group, but to know there are people going through similar situation will help. I'm positive that this will help me through this battle.

Kindest regards Mike

  • Hi  and welcome to the Macmillan Community from another Mike but so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

I have been on my journey for over 25 years with 2 rare types of rare Lymphomas with the second one being diagnosed after a biopsy on tumour in my neck.

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… so once you know the exact type of cancer you have you can look through this link Cancer Specific Groups where you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

As you have found the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community…… but if we don’t talk again, all the very best.
