Diagnosed with bowel cancer Oct 2023, section of bowel and part of rectum removed, ileostomy formed Nov 2023. Adjuvant chemo CAPOX scheduled for 4 cycles starting Jan 2024. Finished first cycle and 2 days later had a heart attack - 2 stents fitted. Ileostomy reversed July 2024 and bowels settling down nicely.

Follow up scans / tests Jan this year have shown the cancer has spread to liver - surgey and radiation not an option chemo only (TOMOX). Told I have 6 to 12 months left give or take -  maybe 18 months with chemo.

Probably not going with the chemo, just enjoy what's  left whilst I am feeling fine. Anyone else have a similar experience, any advice  experience of the TOMOX chemo, what happens near the end?? So worried and anxious. 71 years old.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the bowel cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. When you feel ready you can start a new post there in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Another group you might like to join is the living with incurable cancer group, where you can discuss your feelings openly. If you'd like to join, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
