Hello everyone,
Although it feels an age since my diagnosis I'm new to this Community.
Pretty much recovered physically from a lumpectomy mid-December. Nerve pain for a couple of weeks but I got off lightly really.
I had a 29mm grade 2 ILC, ER 8/8, HER2 negative. That was about 3 x bigger than original estimate. I know that's not uncommon with ILC. The lymph nodes were clear.
Due to the size being borderline, a sample has gone for oncotype testing. It was a real shock that chemo might be recommended as well as radiotherapy. 11 more days until I see the Oncologist to find out.
Trying to keep busy and positive. It's OK during the day but not when I'm lying awake in the small hours. My heart goes out to everyone on here who is waiting for something on their cancer journey.
Hi CotswoldK and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022. Like you I had a lumpectomy and was borderline for chemotherapy as one of my lymph nodes had micro deposits of cancer cells. I was given the choice of whether to have chemo and radiotherapy or just radiotherapy but decided that I wanted to give myself the best chance so choose to have chemo too.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Thanks Anne, that's good advice and nice to hear from someone who has been in a similar position.
Hi!
Like you, I had a lumpectomy in December for a 20mm ILC tumour (plus two baby ones 1.4mm and 2.7mm) and had micro cells in the one lymph they removed. Told not to worry about the lymph node lol! I’m 63 and post-menopausal.
Again, I’d been told it would just be radiotherapy but it was suggested I had the Oncotype test, which I agreed to. I’m due to get the result in the next week or so.
Hope you got the result you wanted. I’ve been told that a need a score of 14, which seems a difficult one to achieve, but keeping positive.
All best wishes for your journey too.
