Breast Cancer with ILR implant.

Hello everyone,

I have just registered and hope I have come to the right place!

I would like to know if any lady with breast cancer has had an Implantable Loop Recorder (ILR) in her breast?

This is to record the heart rhythm.

I am due to have one implanted on 21st January but am feeling very anxious about how obvious it looks on the breast.

I have been given lots of information and videos about the procedure but no one seems to have a (discreet) picture of how it actually looks i.e. how big a bump it is?!

I know its the size of a small usb but even that seems large to me.  I have searched the internet to no avail and the hospital could not assist with this.

It is not essential for me to have this surgical operation, but is purely a safety measure as I had some palpitations a while ago.

I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some visualisation of its appearance after implant?

PS - and I would imagine the mammograms afterwards would be more painful then they are already!?

Thank you for reading this and I really look forward to hearing from your members.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022 but didn't have an ILR implanted.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and any treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • So far I have a mastectomy and chemo, now I am having injections, I have lost my hair and feeling very low

  • Hi

It's natural that sometimes you'll feel low but can I recommend that you join the same group as I've linked Upsandowns to as you'll then connect with others who have breast cancer.
