Hi everyone have just joined the group and hoping to find people who are going through similar experiences like me. I am fit and healthy and enjoying my life. 6weeks ago I got a really bad chest infection and went to Dr for anti bioticd. He listened to my chest and as a precaution sent me for a chest X-ray. To my horror it came back with a suspicious scar. With in a wk I was back at hospital for Ct scan which confirmed a small cancer in my top right lung. I have now had my PET scan done and due to go in on the 14 January for biopsies to be done. I am absolutely terrified of this and wondering if any of you know if I can have sedation.?I dread the thought of being awake for this as I don’t know exactly what to expect.
many thanks for reading x
Hi redheadforever and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.
Navigating the cancer diagnosis journey can be such a stressful and challenging time.
A lung biopsy can be done to look at various types of conditions and yes cancer but not just Lung Cancer….. I have had 2 Lung biopsies….. the first was done in 2012 relating to my asbestosis that is very stable and has not required treatment.
The second was done in January 2016….. this was related to the Lymphoma I was first diagnosed with in 1999 and again this did not need treatment.
I was offered sedation but did not take it and I was fine….. although it was uncomfortable due to my long term back problems as so had to lay flat on the CT table for a long time.
If you are diagnosed with a cancer getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.
This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… so if you are diagnosed with a cancer you can have a look through THIS LIST you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.
These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
