My mum is starting chemo tomorrow following a mastectomy and axillary clearance at the end of November. I feel so helpless and I'm am so anxious about the future.
I'm terrified that because of a weaken immune system she will get sick and die.
I'm terrified that after treatment the cancer will return or that the chemo and radiotherapy will damage her organs and affect her for the rest of her life however long or short that may be.
I don't want to loose her and it scares me knowing that could happen.
Hi Enirehtak and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
It's natural to be worried about your mum's diagnosis and how this might affect her and the rest of the family.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences, and also either the carers only group (If you are your mum's carer) or the family and friends group (if you're not her carer). Both of these last two groups are great places to get support from others who have a loved one living with cancer.
To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You might also find this information from Macmillan on supporting a family member with cancer useful to have a look through and also this on emotional support for family and friends.
It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
