Do oncologists give the worst news in the last appointments of the day?

Husband’s bowel cancer has returned - 2 years after stage 3 - previously treated with surgery and chemo.

He had a PET scan on 23rd December. Appointment came through this evening for 415 on Wednesday 8th.

Husband is convinced that this is the slot where they tell you it’s inoperable/ there is nothing to be done etc. That they clear the other easy cases during the day.

Is this true? The waiting is unbearable for him. Could it be something else? That no scans would be needed that day due to prior PET scan, so a later appointment?

  • Hi Yoyo. I am so sorry for what you and your husband are going through. Wishing for some good news for you. All I can tell you is that my Mum’s latest bad news was given early in the morning so I don’t think the time of day is necessarily any sort of indication.

  • Hi Yoyo

I'm so sorry that your husband and you are going through this. I honestly don't think the time of your appointment is any indication as to what they are going to tell you. I would say not to worry but I understand that's impossible but the appointment time is not something you should worry about. Sending hugs. Xx

Not for me either. I was told I had cancer at 9.30 and some weeks later that I was clear at 5pm
