Exercising after double mastectomy w/ reconstruction

Hello all. I just joined and am grateful to find a group like this. I’m not sure which forum I should join for my question. Please advise. Thanks.

I’m a 39 year old and have recently had a double mastectomy due to invasive ductal carcinoma. Being a big runner all my life, my breast size has been small (A or smaller) because of my athletic build. At times I have wished I had larger breasts. Now I have that opportunity, as I am in the reconstruction phase of my chest. Do any of you have any bust size advice for running in comfort while possibly going a bit bigger? Should I avoid going bigger at all? I haven’t been able to run yet since my surgery to see how my current situation feels. Right now my implanted expanders are about a size B and I’m unsure if I should go any larger. For those of you that have real world experience running with size B or C cup sizes, I would really value your opinions. Thanks for all the advice and info. I really appreciate it!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022, although I had a lumpectomy rather than a mastectomy.

The best group for you to join would be the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
