Hello
I had a collapse in hospital a few weeks ago. As I hit my head I had a CT scan and it revealed a mass, so just before christmas I had a brain MRI. So I am waiting on a all from a neurology consultant to let me know what kind of brain tumour it is. I have checked with the department and it they say it will be 2nd week of Janurary the results will be back and to expect a call. The mass is in the part of the brain that controls vision.
It has been a really crap 2024. I have lots of other disabilities, so I don't work, and have not been well enough to be really involved in friends and family life, i've spent most of the year in and out of hospital and had to cancel so many holidays and trips. I am under 8 consultants and it is a constant battle. At the end of the the year I lost two close relatives and now this, 2024 can do one.
The wait for the call from the consultant is eating me up, and the thing I am most scared of is not the big C, and all the treatment, I have one of the most painful conditions already and live on strong pain killers and anti sickness meds already and some of my meds have caused me already to lose some hair, so have a tiny bit of understanding and sympathy.
My fear is losing my driving licence as it brings me huge joy through my hobbies of travel and I live in a small village. I spend the year travelling the country and abroad, if this happens I will have to find a new way to find joy.
I find myself bursting into tears which is still partially the grief of family loss, struggling with current medical issues and fear of the unknown.
Anyway thanks for this forum and this site, it has been really useful. Love to you all x
Hi Makva and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.
Navigating a cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).
This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)…… but I do see that you have already joined our dedicated Brain Tumour Support Group.
This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support. To connect in with the group please click on the link below…….
……. then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
