Waiting for surgery

Hello, I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1a Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma mid November.  My symptoms really became apparent in August after increasing my HRT in June, i thought it was all related, sore breasts, anxiety and bleeding. I spoke to the doctor and from that point it’s been a series of investigations and procedures followed by diagnosis.

I am told surgery should be all I need, which I am grateful for. I am entering week 6 of an approximate 4-6 week wait for surgery. Christmas was a welcome distraction to a degree, I’ve also had a cold/flu virus thing, so need to be better! but now my thoughts are very much focused on what is to come. I am worried, I try to get on with everything everyday whilst I am waiting, but the wait is excruciating!
I want the surgery but I’m so nervous that something will go wrong and secondly what they find when they go in or send away to histology is different to what was first thought.

I work full time and took a week off last week initially because of the cold/flu thing that I am not quite over yet, but now my GP has signed me off for another two weeks to give me the best chance to rest, recover  and look after myself on the lead up to surgery. I just hope my surgery date comes up soon!

I will be having a browse through the forums and I am sure I will find your stories very relatable and helpful, so thank you for sharing xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I don't have the same type of cancer as you, I know what's it like to be waiting for surgery.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the womb cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
