Hi all I guess I'm at the point the now I'm looking for some guidance, my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in February a tumor was found at the bottom of his oesophagus and had spread to his glands he went through chemo and was moved on to immunotherapy, every 2 weeks he was to go for a routine operation of getting a balloon down his throat to expand it. Within the last 4-5 weeks he's been deteriorating to the stage his has no energy to do anything just sleeps all the time, he struggles to eat at the best of times and with him being type 1 diabetic it's affecting that. I visited my dad yesterday and it destroyed me seeing my dad that way he's just skin and bone, hes confused alot. He refuses to go to hospital doctors have visited him at home n keep doing blood tests but they don't seem to find anything. It dosent help that I deal with depression and anxiety so I'm finding it harder to grasp. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read about your dad and I know how a cancer diagnosis can affect the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the oesophageal cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same type of cancer as your dad, and also the family and friends group where you can discuss your worries and emotions and get support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
