Breast cancer and increased pain in my ribs

Hello

just looking for answers about breast cancer metastasis in the bones.
pain in left rib first noticed in August. Thought it was due to how im sitting at work or my underwire bra.
Following routine mammogram 19/08/24 I was told on10/09 that I have grade 3 IDC 37mm. Surgery 04/10 with clear margins and lymph nodes clear. Left breast WLE. Hormone positive and HR2 negative. I don’t need chemo and start radiotherapy on 02/01/25.  No other issues and feel like this has all been pretty straightforward.
But I never mentioned this rib pain to anyone until this week.  Its never gone away but my excuses for it previously don’t wash now as i have been wearing soft bras and not worked at a desk for 2+ months now. Its actually more tender now, i notice it all the time like a niggle like something is there and if i stretch or lift my left breast up (they droop) it feels like something is being pulled inside.
i can feel a soft tender lump over my ribs and my husband can see it and the shadow it casts.
so i finally mentioned it yesterday at my radiotherapy planning scan and they just said “this is not a diagnostic scan, just for measurements “.
So i emailed the breast care nurses and usually they respond in a few days. Well, yesterday they tried to get hold of me twice after 5pm but my phone was on silent and now they have rang at 0845 this morning to tell me the surgeon wants to see me in the next week and I will get a text on when to come in.
hence i m worried now.
I have previously asked about likelihood of spread even though my lymph nodes were clear and constantly being reassured not to worry about that. So my questions are

does anyone have this experience of spreading with clear lymphs or anyone had this sort of pain or experience. I dont need soft soaping. I just want to talk to people with experience and not the NHS doctors who barely tell me anything and just don’t seem to want to have the conversations.
thank you in advance. xx

  • Hello. I don’t know what the pain is that you’re experiencing but I was told that they could tell whether the breast cancer was primary or not (mine was) and I was also told that if my lymph nodes were clear then it hadn’t spread. Hopefully it’s completely unconnected. Great that they have responded quickly and are going to check it out for you. Sending positive vibes x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't have any personal experience of breast cancer metastasis in the bones but the online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the secondary breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
