Hello,
I am wondering if anyone on here has any advice or reassurance they could offer.
I had a smear test in November last year which came back HPV positive and no abnormal cells found so was to repeat smear in 12 months. I returned on the 18th of November for another smear which has now come back as HPV positive and High grade (Severe) dyskaryosis so I have been referred for a Colposcopy which is scheduled for next Friday. I am aware this is not a diagnosis of cervical cancer. However, I am feeling really anxious of the unknown and keep finding myself going back and forth of ‘Everything will be okay’ to ‘But what if it’s not’ and I know only the results of the Colposcopy can settle that back and forth I am having.
But I was wondering if anyone on here has had a similar experience to me…. At the end of October this year (Just under a month before my Smear) I went to my Doctors with suspected bacterial Vaginosis, because I had excessive vaginal discharge and an unusual smell, I had a vaginal swab and was told everything came back normal. However, last night I was on the NHS app and viewed my results of my high vaginal swab and seen it was actually positive for Bacterial Vaginosis. I contacted my doctors today and it was confirmed I was given the wrong results and I have BV which I am now on antibiotics for. So due to me being given incorrect results that means BV was present when I had my smear test. I know BV can affect the results of a smear test but I am wondering if it can affect it to the point of possible high grade severe dyskaryosis. I know nobody can tell me for sure the answer to that and what all of this means, but I am just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation before.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Hi Kel.5 and welcome to the community.
If you’d like to join the cervical cancer group-the link is below-this is the best place to make your post and ask about abnormal, non cancerous cells.
