Hi , my mum has stage 4 breast cancer that was diagnosed in feb 2023? Although it’s been a struggle the cancer has been kept stable with drugs until now , the cancer has progressed and they are no longer working , we have been told that the next step is a very strong chemo tablet for her to try at home it’s 2 weeks on and 1 week off for the foreseeable future , after 9 weeks they will do a scan and see if it’s working and evaluate if she can cope with the side effects .

My Gp is also the palliative care consultant at our local hospice , after speaking to him and telling him my daughter is due to get married in April 2026 he has told me that if she wants her granny at her wedding she needs to bring the date forward .

How do I tell my daughter this , … any advice or support will be great fully appreciated. I’m struggling myself so I don’t know what to do . Thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum's breast cancer has progressed and I can only begin to imagine how difficult it must be for you right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is for carers, friends and families of people with an incurable diagnosis to discuss their emotions as well as practical issues. There you can talk to others and find out how they broached this difficult conversation with their children.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

    Sending virtual (((hugs)))
