My husband had a radical prostatectomy January 2022 he was T3b as it was in the margins but they thought it had all gone.  His PSA level started to increase in March this year and is now at 0.27.  They advise to wait until it reaches 0.4 when he will have a PETscan so that radiotherapy can be more precise.  His next review is in 3 months and  I am worried about the delay in starting the treatment.  Any advice please

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's natural to worry when a cancer diagnosis is involved.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi Whittaker, and welcome from me,  I didn't go down the surgery route for my prostate cancer, great advice from your medical team and I can understand your concerns, any rise in your PSA is worrying, but his rise has been caught early and it's still very low. As I said earlier, surgery wasn't for me.  But as Latchbrook has suggested, The Prostate cancer forum, would be the best place to join m, there aremany on the forum who have been through what you and your husband are going through  You will find many wonderful people, men and women, happy to help you both, with advice,  support or just a chat, they have a wealth of knowledge between them, experience they will gladly share with you, my best wishes to you both m

  • Hello

Another warm welcome to the Macmillan online Community from me too.

I am Brian and I hang around on the Prostate Community - I have been there for 3 years and they are a great set of folk.

I would endorse the previous two posters and advise you to join our little band where you will receive some cracking advice from people who have "been there - done that". Here's the link again:

I look forward to "meeting" you again on our part of the Community.

    Best wishes - Brian.
