Just been diagnosed with skin cancer - a bit of a shock. Treating it with a chemo cream. Started yesterday. Was told side effects weren’t bad and shouldn’t be a problem but about an hour after putting on the cream both mornings I’ve been really nauseous. Is this normal?

  • Im so sorry u are going threw this! I have to go December 3rd to have a place on my chest biopsyed. I'm scared it'll be a type of skin cancer! I'm also waiting on results from a pap they found a growth on my cervix so waiting to see If it's cancer! Or just a polyp. I think with most chemo treatment one of the most common symptoms is nausea. If it gets to bad I would just call ur Dr and let them kno. Maybe they can give u a med for your nausea. I had to take a medication for 3 months that was like chemo but pill form and I got headaches and sleepiness and at times nausea. I hope u feel better soon tho! Im so sorry u are going threw this!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with skin cancer and, having had a skin cancer diagnosis myself a few years ago, I can understand how you feel. Mine was treated with surgery so I don't have any experience with using a chemo cream.

Depending on whether you've been diagnosed with melanoma or a non-melanoma skin cancer depends on which is the best group for you to join to ask questions and share experiences with others who are having the same treatment as you. If you've been diagnosed with melanoma then clicking here will take you to that group. For any other type of skin cancer click here.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. • Thanks. I think this is a bit complicated. I’ll try to find an easier group for support.

  • I agree that the online community can seem a bit tricky initially, but once you are in the right group you'll get the support you're looking for.

What type of skin cancer do you have and I'll put that link into my reply to you?

  • Hi Martha,

I used Imiquimod (Aldara)cream for Basal Cell Carcinoma , I too had nausea , I went to the Pharmacy and they gave me Silicolgel, it tastes pretty bad ,but it helped with the nausea.

The nausea lasted for the 6 weeks of the treatment for me, but stopped in full days after the treatment ended.

My treatment ended 4 weeks ago, and glad to say the treatment area looks ok.

All the best for your treatment.
