During a long hospital stay my husband was diagnosed with bile duct cancer, he’s 75 never been ill and this has hit us like a brick! We are very positive and strong people but my husband is handling it better than me at the moment. He starts chemo and immunotherapy in a couple of weeks, the aim initially to shrink it as our surgeon would like to attempt to remove it again if it shrinks enough, although I don’t think the Dr in oncology is as optimistic as the surgeon.
Im trying not to think too far ahead but keep imagining my life without him and then getting upset. There is an age gap between us (17 years) and the odds are that he would go before me but I’m just not ready to lose him yet.
it is all very overwhelming at times…
Hi Cornwall2025 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read about your husband's recent diagnosis and it's natural to be feeling as you do.
The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the bile cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same diagnosis as your husband.
Another group which I think might be helpful for you is the carers only group, where you can share any worries and find emotional support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
