Mass found on colonoscopy

Hi. I have just found this group.  Yesterday I went for a colonoscopy after having blood in my stools for several months (I can’t remover how many because somehow it wasn’t important).  Obviously I knew this wasn’t normal but put it down to everything and anything and yes I was too embarrassed to show anyone my bum!  Eventually it got too bad a few weeks ago and I went to the doctors who examined me and gave me a fit test to do at home.  Came back at 200.  So a colonoscopy was booked.  I was sedated but watched the screen and even my untrained eye could see the problem.  They took a biopsy and I was told it needs to be tested but it’s does not look good.  I have a partner and 11 year old child and I just feel like my life is imploding.  The hospital have said that I’ll be sent for an urgent  ct scan to see if it’s anywhere else.  So I’m assuming that a cough I have and pain in my arm and constant scab up my nose are all related to my yet to be identified mass in my colon. I’m just looking for some support  and tips on how to navigate this scary path I find myself on.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.

As you see Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) as you have already joined and been posting on our dedicated Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer.

This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support..

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community all the very best.
