Hi Everyone

I was told that I have colon Cancer 2 weeks ago.

It came as a shock Astonished

 I didn't have any syptoms.

I had previously done a bowel cancer test, posted it off and expected everything thing to be ok. But it came back saying I needed more test.

So a colonoscopy, MRI and  CT scan later, confirmed that I had cancer and it would have to be removed.

I see my consultant this Friday. I am trying to expect the best, the best being I only need an operation and nothing more.

I lost my husband 2 months ago to bowel cancer. So I'm consumed with grief.

This news has really set me back. I have family offering help and friends too, when all I really want is my husband to hold my hand and tell me it will all be ok.

I also have 3 small dogs that are my world. My concern is, how long will I be in hospital?  And when I come home will I be able to take care of them on my own?

I'm searching for anything I can find on the subject and it is making my head spin.

  • Hi  and welcome to this area of the Macmillan Community.

As you already know the community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and I do see that you have been posting in our dedicated Bladder cancer Support Group.

You may also want to look at our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer as well.

These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions especially about the time you may be in hospital and get support.

You may also want to look at our Animals are family, too Support Group.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hi Clickoff

2017 age 62 I had a positive poo test, after colonoscopy I was told that I had colorectal cancer, anterior resection to remove the tumour, then 5 days in hospital, 9 weeks later back to work.

First 2 weeks home were tiring, surgery leaves most drained, then my energy levels picked up, daily walks and some recreation.

2022 final scopes were clear....discharged from oncology.

Best to keep Google to a bare minimum... it only adds to stress.

Take care and best of luck

    Peter
