I had “appendicitis” in May misdiagnosed as some kind of water infection.  I was on antibiotics when my appendix perforated.  On a scan, it looks like there was a “collection” around it as you would expect.  They explained why they could not / would not recommend removing the appendix at this stage. Rather, I had IV antibiotics and inflammation levels kept coming down etc.  Fast forward to June and a colonoscopy (all fine) and a CT.  The CT showed shadows on my liver.  An MDT meeting decided that it was most likely to be infection from the perforated appendix. More antibiotics.  I was absolutely terrified at this point and started with the intrusive thoughts about dying / funeral playing out.  Further MRI and CT: everything in my liver is bigger and I have masses on my ovaries.  Biopsy has been taken from my liver to determine whether this did start in my appendix.  I told them.  I told them pain was increasing, I was bloated every day etc etc etc.

Absolutely terrified and extremely angry at the same time.  I have a 5 year old daughter and a partner x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read everything you've been through and I know what a distressing time it can be waiting for results of tests and treatment to start.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I'm not sure from your post if you're saying that you've been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer which has spread from your appendix, or that you're still being tested to find out what type of cancer is the primary. If I've understood correctly, can I recommend that you join the secondary liver cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

If it does turn out that the cancer has spread from your appendix then you could also join the pseudomyxoma peritonei group (appendix cancer) so that you can connect directly with others in the same situation.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thanks I will take a look at this.  At the moment, they’re thinking I had cancer of the appendix, that’s then spread further and further again whilst I’ve been mistreated.

  • You'd be welcome to join the groups even before you have an official diagnosis as it'll give you the chance to connect with others to ask questions and share experiences.
