Going to a concert

Hi, I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer 3 years ago and I’m currently on a clinical trial. I finally decided that I wanted to start going to concerts and I went to see ABBA Voyage this year and they were so helpful when I explained my situation and let me have an accessible chair as I can no longer stand for long periods. I was then looking into other possible concerts and was looking into some at BST Hyde park but unfortunately they are standing only and from what I have made out you can only be in the accessible area if you are in a wheelchair. Has anybody else come across the same issues? It would be interesting to know

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

That's great to read how accommodating the concert venue for ABBA Voyage was and it would be good if all venues followed their lead.

As the online community is divided into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer group and also the cancer chat group to see if anyone has had a similar experience to you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Have you contacted the Hyde Park venue directly so that you can explain that whilst not in a wheelchair you need to sit down to enjoy the concert?

    All the best

  • Thanks for the reply and I have joined the groups that you have suggested. I had never thought about accessibility for people struggling with standing or even wheelchair bound and have come to realise that not enough area is being given to them to the places where these concerts are being held
