Nutropenic sepsis

Good evening.

My husband has had one round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy two weeks ago. Unfortunately he got nutropenic sepsis and was very ill. It was touch and go and so frightening. He is stage 3 lung cancer with 2 lymph nodes involved. We were visited by the consultant oncologist who said because of this they will stop the cancer treatment. We knew the risks but surely there is something else to try. I feel like they've given up at the first hurdle. Devastated doesn't come close. Has anyone else had treatment stopped because of nutropenic sepsis?

  • Hi   and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and the challenges he is having.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type or support challenges will help you a lot.

I have a completely different type of cancer and treatment journey but I had Nutropenic Sepsis along with Pneumonia on 2 occasions that had me in hospital for a week but this was after my treatment was completed so I was in a better position to deal with the difficult challenges this brought.
