Hello I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the end of September and started Chemo on Friday last week. At this stage it is all very surreal and strange and although the chemo went well, the whole thing i makes you feel very vulnerable and watchful of things going wrong and frightened about the future. I suppose I am looking for people who are at this stage and beyond so that i can get a range of experiences and perspectives. I think is important to me to understand what the range of normal reactions is - particularly physically but also emotionally and mentally and what people do to cope with something that is going to take a long time to move through and hopefully recover from.
Hi Marge24 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022 and had a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so can understand your wish to chat to others to find out about their experiences.
As the online community is divided into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi I've just joined and had my surgery 10th of October two lumps found and now removed, I'm waiting for next steps but also scared for the future and feeling every symptom I have is linked to more cancer ,feeling quite lonely at the moment whilst trying to put on a brave face.
Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023. I had a right mastectomy and clearance in June 2023 then 7 months of chemotherapy and 15 days of radiotherapy. They got all of my cancer out from the operation but I needed chemo and radiotherapy to help stop it coming back. I was 43 when I was diagnosed. The lump was round and 9.3cm. They did a clearance where they removed 12 lymph nodes and 8 of them were cancerous. Keep going with chemo and work through all the emotions you face. Macmillan cancer helpline helped me enormously and they helped me financially as I am on my own with my now 11 year old son. It's the toughest thing you will do but it will finish at some point. The positivity of the other cancer patients helped me so much. I am struggling with breathlessness at the moment so I'm having to rest where I can but I've managed to start a new job last month and getting some normality back is helping a lot. My chemo finished in January. I am having a reconstruction next year. Good luck and keep going. Xxx
