Hi. I got diagnosed yesterday with cancer in the left tonsil and lymph node. The hospital team seem amazing and I’m being swept into preparation for treatment. My treatment will consist of 6 weeks of radiology with two doses of chemotherapy to ‘turbo boost’ (my term) the radiology starting in about 10 days. As it only became a reality yesterday it’s all a bit overwhelming. I informed my 13 year old daughter and very close friends and family yesterday - which was very emotional but already I feel the warmth of the support network I have around me to cope with the tough months that lie ahead.

I have been very hungry for information on this particular cancer and treatment as I like to be mentally prepared. It would be good to link up with others experiencing the same thing.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the head and neck cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you.

When you feel ready, you can start a new post there in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
