Not sure if anyone can help or advise .my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer around 4 years ago .Dur to il health not related to this we have found out it has spread to his lung liver bowel and lymph nodes .. Me my mum and brother or meeting the consultant tomorrow I'm trying to think of a thousand questions to ask .. any suggestions please
Hi im sorry to hear about your dad. I would suggest writing down all your questions and ask anything that comes into your head however silly you think it might be, I asked about every random thought that came into my head and still do now. You will probably find the consultant will answer some of them without you having to ask. Also if the consultant is happy record the meeting as there will probably be a lot of information to take in. Hope all goes well. Xx
Hi I have a different cancer to your dad and I'm currently on week 4 of my treatment if all goes well I should be OK . I think important varies from person to person for me it was obviously prognosis, being female hair loss ( which I know isn't important in the big picture), would I get different/better treatment options if I was private, side affects long and short term of treatment, what happens if i did nothing and then like I say every random thought that came to mind some of which I think amused him but he humoured me and answered them all. Xx
Hello D3bz and welcome. Can I also suggest that you join the prostate cancer forum on this link.
Once there you need to press the black join bar and it will automatically link you in. We are a friendly bunch and can maybe help you more once you have joined and given us a little more information. Eddie has asked me to come over and say hi.
I am the wife whose husband is now 81 and was diagnosed with advanced advanced metastatic prostate cancer in July 2020 and he has had 3 recurrences so far so we are gradually working through the options. What is available or suitable will depend on what treatment he has already had plus his other health issues. If you have an hour then I would suggest you watch this video. It is American but it gives you an idea of the latest thinking on treating advanced prostate cancer with multiple spread but one thing to ask at the meeting is whether your dad might be eligible for either Triplet Therapy (a combination of ADT, ARPI and Docetaxel) or maybe a targeted therapy like Lutetium 177 with ARPI. There are some therapies which rely on having the correct genes so another question is whether your dad can have a genetic test.
