Hi
my dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to lymph nodes. He is 75. He had an occipital stroke and while in hospital a chest cray revealed a mass on his lung and after several more tests we were informed last week it’s cancer. We have first oncology appointment on 16th Sept. My dad was completely independent prior to his stroke. The stroke has affected his vision, his short term memory and he’s mildly confused now. He is mobile with a stick. But can’t walk far due to fatigue. His mood has dropped a lot and he’s not motivated at all to do anything. It’s frustrating my mum who cares for him. I am not local to them, I’m 2 hours drive away in the northwest, but I’ve been going down at weekends and staying to see my dad and support my mum.
im not sure how I feel. But at the moment I think I feel like it’s not actually happening.
thank you for taking the time to read this

Hi Nosila24 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and it's natural to feel as you do.
The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends forum which is a great place to connect with others who have a loved one dealing with cancer. If you want to connect with others to talk about treatment, etc then the lung cancer forum would be a good one to join as well.
To join either or both of these forums, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment plan into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
