  1. Hi, I am brand new to this forum. I am the wife of a 45yr old man who has just had shock diagnosis of advanced rectal cancer. It has gone to liver and we are awaiting additional pelvic MRI and PET scan before full treatment plan. Currently consultant thinks curable and likely to be 12 weeks chemo, radiotherapy, removal of tumour with temp/permanent stoma then operational to remove the growths on liver but all pending on additional scans and responses. My husband is fit healthy in all other ways and we have 18 yr old and 14 year old who are still blissfully unaware until we have firm regime in place. We are ridiculously scared and looking for positive words of advice in handling everything, positive outcome stories. Thank you x
  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your husband has recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer which has spread to his liver but that's great that the consultant thinks that it's curable.

As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer and also secondary liver cancer forums which are great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
