Concerned daughter!

My dad was rushed into hospital last week following a fall.

Following a full body scan we have been told that dad has sigmoid cancer which has spread to his liver along with blood clots on his lungs. This has devastated us as we thought it was a heart condition which the paramedics had picked up on.

We are waiting for the cancer team to come up with a plan of treatment. They had originally said that they considered a colonoscopy to be too invasive but today are saying that he will have it as an outpatient.

So much to think about and so many decisions to make about his ongoing care!

Would love to hear anyone else's experiences or any advice.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your dad has been diagnosed with cancer after being taken to hospital following a fall and I know what an anxious time this will be for the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support forums and I can see that you've already found and joined the bowel cancer forum which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to your dad.

When you feel ready to post there, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
