Had kidney cancer diagnosis yesterday. Overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety of whats to come. Been told I am able to have keyhole surgery so trying to take that as a positive. Can anyone advise me how to deal with the permanent feeling of dread and not being able to sleep or eat.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

How you're feeling right now is perfectly normal but it does help to others who understand what you're going through.

As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the kidney cancer forum which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • I feel your pain Pip.  I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on Friday and yesterday had the talk with the hospital about further things like radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone treatment etc. but things don't  look too good in terms of containment.  It's all a bit muddling and today I do feel anxious and a bit unsure what to do with myself.  I wish you well on your journey.

  • Good luck with yours too.

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the online Community.

I see you have joined the Prostate Forum - it's hard at first when you are just starting your journey - why not come and introduce yourself to the "gang" on the Prostate Community - here's a link

    Prostate cancer forum

We are a friendly bunch and have all "been there - done that" and are more than happy to answer any questions, however trivial you may think they are. I hang around on that forum and you can read my journey by clicking on my avatar.

I look forward to "meeting" you again on "our" forum.

    Best wishes - Brian.
