Cold cap

Hi, I finished 12 cycles of chemo in January last year for breast cancer and used the cold cap. I lost about half of my hair but it still looked ok.

The hair I lost is now growing back very curly and my remaining hair is straight - it looks ridiculous and I’m struggling to know how to style it, even though I’ve had it all cut to the same length.

Will this new hair always be curly? Any styling tips? Thank you

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I didn't cold cap when I had chemotherapy so lost all my hair. However, it was growing back before my chemo finished. It grew back the same as before, although a dark grey, but then gradually returned to my normal dark brown. However, I have heard of plenty of people whose hair grew back completely different to how it originally was. I don't know if changed back or not.

The online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer forum which is a great place to ask your question and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
