Hi all, my name is Hazel and yesterdayI was diagnosed with Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.  I had an MRI and I also have to have a PET scan (which I have no idea what that is.)  I have already survived two Malignant Melanomas and am praying I'll survive this.  Anyone else here with the same?  Just wanted to say hi really, as I've no family to speak to.  I do have a wonderful husband, but he is a bit of an Ostrich (which doesn't really help when you are terrified.)

Thanks for listening.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Community but sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I do see that you have already joined and put up a post in our dedicated Head and neck cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Thank you, yes I will definitely put the phone number in my favourite contacts list. I was given a number yesterday by a cancer nurse who told me to ring her anytime with any questions and she will help me, however, I rang today and got an answerphone and told to leave a message and she would get back to me.  It's out of hours now and not a squeak.

    Thank you again

  • Your contact nurse will get back to you….. but like everyone else they only work certain hours and Cancer Nurse Specialists (CNS) don’t normally work weekends
