Hi everyone, I am finding it really hard today after first treatment 5 days ago, my energy has felt very low especially the last two days.
I am normally a very active person and I know I have to adjust but suffering from really bad fatigue and back pain today just really got me down. I will be having chemo every two weeks over 16 weeks then radiotherapy. I am a positive person but today was really tough. I don’t feel like myself at all and unsure how to cope with these feelings apart from looking after myself the best I can.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about the challenges you are having.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)

But you don’t say what type of cancer you have but if you care to have a look through THIS LIST you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

Have a look through the LIST above and once you find the support group for your cancer type....... click on the link and when the group page opens you will see a [ Black - Click to Join - Banner ] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [ + Create new post] or [ + ] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community ((hugs))

  • Hi NicolaK

I finished Chemo in March and Radiation in May but I remember the 1st chemo being the worst one for me. I felt OK until day 3 then I felt really awful but hang in there it gets better. Try and eat what you feel like and lots of water and just rest if you can. Stay positive you can do this

  • Thank you for your message. I saw the oncologist today and she said that this was the challenging bit, the bit right between the two chemo appointments. She said that my immune boost injections were the cause of my back pain and should get bettter over the next couple of days. I had a good cry and felt a bit better about everything. It’s tougher than I expected but I guess that’s all part of it too.

  • Hi

    i I feel your pain!
Im currently on 1 day of IV chemo and two wrk tablets and boy the first one was awful. Just finished my second cycle but they put a temporary pause on it( not sure why yet).

I too have felt all your feeling and it’s all normal. If you feel like crying then cry. I do and then feel better. It’s very fandom too. I think it’s not having any control and having to put your trust in the doctors. You will have better days and things do get easier so hang in there( easier said than done). You’ve got this! Everyone says it but try and stay positive as there’s nothing we can do.

    Take care
